The Oyster Cloyster is an exceptional event where you can indulge your sense of pleasure with original culinary creations prepared by the Chefs of the Oyster Cloyster, making it an experience to savor. Proceeds from the event benefit both the Oregon Coast Community College’s Aquarium Science Program as well as the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
Oregon Coast Community College has been serving the Lincoln County community since 1987. OCCC students are of all ages, from high school students, enrolled in the Expanded Options Program, to new and recent high school graduates, to individuals returning to college after an extended absence, to retirees. Students can complete the first two years of a bachelor’s degree, earn an associate degree or certificate, take courses to update employment skills or to start a small business, earn a GED, learn English as a Second Language or take courses for personal enrichment. OCCC offers a variety of career and technical programs including nursing and occupational health and criminal justice as well as the nation’s first and only degree program in Aquarium Science.
The OCCC Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to raising funds for College programs and equipment and student scholarships. The Foundation Board of Directors created the Oyster Cloyster event to support the Aquarium Science program. The Foundation helps to ensure growth and stability for the College, thus ensuring the future of higher education in Lincoln County.
The Oregon Coast Aquarium, opened in 1992, is situated on a beautiful 39-acre site on Yaquina Bay adjacent to an estuary and opposite a historic bay front with a working harbor. In recent years, the local Newport economy has come to rely more upon industries such as tourism and scientific research as traditional fishing and timber sectors have declined. As a world-class Aquarium and interpretive center, the Oregon Coast Aquarium has helped to broaden the economic base and attract visitors from all over the world. The Aquarium is consistently rated among the nation’s top aquariums, most recently by USA Today, Coastal Living, Parents Magazine, Forbes Traveler and Trailer Life.
The Aquarium is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the highest quality aquatic and marine science programs for recreation and education so that the public better understands, cherishes, and conserves the world’s natural marine and coastal resources. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, a leader in global wildlife conservation and education.
